The BOC has been busy with many activities and involved in several initiatives. Below is an account of the BOC activities, initiatives and future projects. In November, the BOC began the 7 th Practice Analysis study (PA7). Twenty-three PA panelists came together and discussed the knowledge and skills needed by newly certified ATs to safely practice. They created a survey document that was sent to 5,000 ATs certified in the past 5 years. The survey participants served as a validation panel. The BOC Board of Directors will receive the final report from the consultants and, when accepted, PA7 will serve as the blueprint for the BOC exam beginning in April 2017. In January, the BOC published its 2014 annual report, and we hope you will take some time to review this document. Discipline was a major topic for the BOC in 2014. The Disciplinary Action Exchange was created and has information from the BOC and State Regulatory Agencies detailing 33 individuals who have been reprimanded, suspended, revoked or denied a license or BOC certification. This series is designed to provide education on the new 2016 Approved Provider Standards. All the webinars are available online. In April, we completed our self-study for reaccreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The BOC has been continuously accredited by the NCCA since 1982 and is the ONLY accredited certification program for ATs in the United States. In turn, ATs will be able to select professional development activities that will best help them maintain or enhance clinical competence and knowledge. • Friday: 2pm-6pm Saturday: 9am-6:30pm • There is only a $5.00 administration fee. • Earn up to 12 CEU credits Registration is FREE, and open online in May. These audits may occur randomly, or they may follow disciplinary action or the late submission of certification maintenance materials. In the 2013 certification maintenance period, there were 184 disciplinary audits, 986 late audits and 200 random audits. Most audits had a positive outcome. Some audits revealed violations of the BOC Standards of Professional Practice. Violations fell into either or both of the following categories: • Code 2.3: Requires that the AT “complies with the most current BOC recertification policies and requirements” • Code 3.9: Requires that the AT “is candid, responsible and truthful in making any statement to the BOC, and in making any statement in connection with athletic training to the public” Specifically, these violations were recorded when ATs: • Could not provide proof of being continuously certified in Emergency Cardiac Care throughout the entire reporting period; and/or, • Earned CEUs outside of the designated reporting period When completing the continuing education reporting form (AT203) in BOC Central TM , all ATs agree to a series of confirmation statements that address, among other items, accuracy in reporting and appropriate recordkeeping. Below are audit results for the 2013 certification maintenance period. The charts show actions taken by ATs following notification of their audit.
