GOVERNANCE, NOT OPERATIONS The BOC Board of Directors is seeking a physician leader to help guide the future of athletic training certification. As Physician Director, you’ll bring bring your perspective as a physician to the to a nine-member Board serving the profession, certificants, candidates and the public. BRING YOUR PERSPECTIVE AS A PHYSICIAN TO THE BOC BOARD SERVE. COLLABORATE. HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF ATHLETIC TRAINING CERTIFICATION. BOC BOARD MEMBERS: Assess trends and needs affecting athletic training and their impact for the BOC Establish and monitor strategic direction, policy and organizational priorities Provide fiduciary oversight and long-term planning Establish and approve standards for certification, exam, CE, certification renewal and professional practice Promote high ethical standards and organizational integrity Support collaboration with organizations advancing athletic training Advocate for health and safety of consumers who receive athletic training services This role isn’t about representing physicians alone. It’s about bringing your experience, perspective and judgment to the board and helping make decisions in the best interests of the BOC, its certificants, candidates and the public. THE COMMITMENT AT A GLANCE MONTHLY Virtual Board Meetings Review materials and come prepared for discussion and decision-making CAN YOU MAKE THE COMMITMENT? The Physician Director must: 9 Prepare consistently 9 Attend monthly meetings 9 Travel twice each year 9 Stay engaged between meetings 9 Commit to multi-year service 2× PER YEAR In-Person Board Meetings Typically, two to three days, plus travel time QUARTERLY Committee Service Begins after the first year of board service YEAR-ROUND Board Engagement Stay connected, review materials, provide input and participate in special projects or time-sensitive discussions as needed ARE YOU A FIT? The Physician Director must: 9 Be a licensed MD or DO with an NPI number and be in good standing 9 Have an interest in health, safety and consumer protection 9 Not practicing as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer as a primary occupation 9 Have experience with or knowledge of governance or oversight boards 9 Be able to maintain confidentiality and manage conflicts of interest PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Experience in sports medicine, health care regulation, CMS recognition or professional oversight boards is highly desirable. COME PREPARED TO LEAD The BOC uses a “flipped” meeting format. Board materials are provided in advance so meeting time can focus on meaningful discussion and decisions.
