DEVELOP A STUDY PLAN TO LESSEN GAPS IN KNOWLEDGE Overview: Understanding available BOC resources can make a difference. Identify knowledge gaps to create a focused study plan. 1 BOC EXAM REFERENCES Comprehensive list of materials supporting exam items. Each item is referenced twice for consensus. Study Tips: ¾ Use the “BOC Exam References” to ensure your resources are on the list. ¾ Borrow books when possible from instructors, classmates, friends, etc.; purchasing every reference is unnecessary. 2 BOC SELF-ASSESSMENT EXAM (SAE) Practice exams in “Study” or “Test” mode that simulate the BOC exam layout and format. 3 SAMPLE EXAM QUESTIONS Study Tips: ¾ Pay attention to bold/italicized instructions first. ¾ Clarify multi-select vs. multiple choice questions. ¾ Practice using the question flag that’s appropriate to your style. -Will you review the flagged question every 20 questions? -Will you review the flagged questions just at the end? -Are you flagging all questions you are not 100% sure about? -Are you flagging only questions you are unable to answer at first glance? Practice reading and understanding item/question instructions (not a study guide). 4 BOC PRACTICE ANALYSIS (PA) Blueprint of essential knowledge and skills entry-level ATs possess; guides exam preparation. Study Tips: ¾ Use the PA to narrow and develop your exam preparation plan. ¾ Use the exam blueprint in the PA to understand how exam content is weighted across the five domains of athletic training. ¾ Identify weak areas using “knowledge of” and “skill in” statements: (e.g., lacking knowledge of “environmental conditions that pose risk (e.g., heat)” - schedule review of heat-related illnesses.) 5 1 2 3 4 PREPARE FOR THE BOC EXAM - RESOURCES AND STUDY TIPS 5 Study Tips: ¾ The SAEs mimic the testing system and question formatting. ¾ Build confidence by practicing with a simulated exam experience.Next >
